Burna Boy has won his third Grammy Award, taking home Best Global Music Album for 'Coastal Highway' at Sunday night's ceremony in Los Angeles — cementing his status as the most decorated African artist in Grammy history and delivering a powerful acceptance speech that turned global attention to the continent's debt crisis.

The Port Harcourt-born singer, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, beat competition from Angélique Kidjo, Caetano Veloso, Elan Mehler and Varijashree Venugopal in the category. His previous Grammy wins came in 2021 for 'Twice as Tall' and 2023 for 'Love, Damini.'

The acceptance speech

Burna Boy used his platform at the podium to address African debt, climate change and what he described as the "double standard" of Western nations that preach democracy while propping up authoritarian governments across the continent.

"Africa is not a charity case. Africa is the future. And the future cannot be mortgaged to the past. Cancel the debt. Free the continent. We are coming." — Burna Boy, 67th Grammy Awards

The speech has generated widespread commentary on social media, with his remarks on debt relief shared over 8 million times within 24 hours and drawing responses from economists, politicians and global health advocates.
