Amnesty International has released a report documenting 34 cases of alleged extrajudicial killings of civilians by Nigerian security forces in Borno and Yobe states between January and April 2026, calling on the government to immediately establish an independent investigation and hold perpetrators accountable.

The report, titled 'Unlawful Killings in the Lake Chad Basin,' is based on testimony from 89 witnesses, analysis of satellite imagery, and medical records obtained from three hospitals in Maiduguri and Damaturu. It alleges that soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force were responsible for the killings during counter-insurgency operations.
