The Bayelsa State Ministry of Health has confirmed the state's first cholera outbreak in three years, with 23 cases — including two fatalities — recorded in two communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area following contamination of water sources by recent flooding.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control deployed a rapid response team to the state on Thursday and has begun an epidemiological investigation to determine the source of contamination and prevent spread to neighbouring communities.
