Bayelsa-born police officer Ikioye Orutugu, who currently serves as the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, has been promoted to the prestigious rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
Ikioye Orutugu an indigene of Okpoama Kingdom in Brass Local Government Area, was born on 3rd August 1966. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on 18th May 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex Kaduna.
Orutugu holds a BSc in Political Science from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Lagos and a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of Port Harcourt.
Throughout his career, CP Ikioye Orutugu has served in various states across the Federation. He was once Assistant Commissioner of Police, in charge of homicide Section Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, Commanding Officer Federal Highway, Zone 5 (Edo, Delta and Bayelsa), Unit Commander Police Mobile Force Akure, Squadron 17, Commanding Officer Mopol 22, Lagos, Commandant, Special Protection Training College, Kudan, Kaduna State and Commandant Police Mobile Training College, Ila-Orangun, Osun State.
He was once Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration Zone 13 Headquarters, Dunukofia Ukpo, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation, Ondo State.
Before his position as the Commissioner of Police Anambra Police Command, he was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Counter Terrorism Unit Force headquarters, Abuja.
Ikioye Orutugu, has received specialized training, including the Unit Commander Conversion Course, Squadron Commander Combat Leadership Course, Strategic Leadership and Command Course Nigeria Police Institute, Studies, Abuja, Peace Negotiation Kosovo and Interpersonal skills United Nations Mission training, Kosovo, Hostile Environment Awareness training Kudan, Kaduna State and pioneer trainee of Army war college, Abuja.
The promotion is a testament to the professionalism of Ikioye Orutugu who described himself as a man of integrity, one who had diligently served in different countries of the world, with hard work, service and discipline as his benchmark to success in life
Earlier, the newly promoted AIG tasked police officers to imbibe professionalism in the discharge of their duties during a security conference organised by the police command in Anambra on Tuesday in Awka.
He said professionalism was the only way the police could earn public trust and confidence.
“The confidence of our people is one of our greatest operational assets and we must continue to earn and sustain it"
“Officers must remain courteous, professional and respectful in dealing with members of the public." Orutugu said.
