The Honourable Commissioner for Education Bayelsa State, Dr Gentle Emelah, has hailed the winning start of Bayelsa State representative at the ongoing Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship National Finals in Lagos, St Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata


On Sunday the seven-time national champions, fondly called the “Jude’s Angels,” were simply unstoppable as they powered past Lanreleke Academy, Ileogbo, Osun State, 61-45 in their opening match.


The girls which announced their title intentions in emphatic style with a blend of firepower and grit turn their focus to Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State, in their second group game on Monday as the hunt for a 8th national crown officially begins


Honourable Gentle in a message of support applauded the impressive start of the girls, while urging them to maintain the momentum.


Gentle who witnessed both St Jude’s Girls Secondary School and Bishop Dimeari Grammar School both of Bayelsa State clinched the championship on the same day in 2022, called on the girls to repeat such feat, encouraging they have what it takes to bring the trophy home.


“I want to congratulate you all for representing Bayelsa in this championships, as we did in 2022 we will do again. So, I urge you to maintain your cool and bring the title home. The Government is proud of what you are doing and the state is behind you." Gentle said.


Honourable Gentle also commended the school policy of Governor Douye Diri, through which the state has had numerous successes in school sports


"Most specially I want to appreciate the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri for giving us the opportunity to participate in numerous tournament."


"Our students can now dream even at gender to be superstars because of the Governor's Education policy." Gentle expressed.
