Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali, has commended Governor Douye Diri for the provision of a new training pitch at the sports facility located opposite the Government House Annex in Yenagoa.
MG News24 reports that Igali said the new facility is not a mini stadium, as being reported in some quarters, but a dedicated practice turf that will serve the needs of footballers and other sports participants across the state.
According to him, the new training pitch is a welcome addition to the state’s sports infrastructure and will help reduce pressure on the Samson Siasia Stadium, which has for many years been the primary venue for sporting activities in Bayelsa State.
He noted that the availability of an additional quality playing surface will provide athletes and teams with more opportunities for training while also helping to preserve the main stadium pitch.
The Sports Commissioner praised Governor Diri’s continued investment in sports development, describing the provision of the training facility as another demonstration of the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for sports growth and youth development.
“We are very pleased with this development. While it is not a mini stadium, it is an important sports facility that will greatly benefit our footballers and other sports users. It reflects Governor Douye Diri’s unwavering commitment to sports development and the welfare of our athletes,” Igali said.
