The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Thursday visited the University of Benin (UNIBEN) to witness the ongoing admission and registration exercise for prospective students of the Institute, ahead of the commencement of full academic activities next week.
During the visit, Shaibu expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the admission process and commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin for providing the necessary facilities and an enabling environment to support the successful take-off of the NIS academic session. He urged other tertiary institutions across the country to emulate UNIBEN's commitment to educational collaboration and excellence.
The DG/CEO also praised the South-South Zonal Office Coordinator of the National Institute for Sports, Dr. Rasheed Oyakhire, and members of staff for their efficiency and dedication in ensuring the swift registration and screening of prospective students within a limited timeframe.
Addressing aspiring coaches and sports administrators, Shaibu encouraged unlicensed coaches across the country to enroll in the National Institute for Sports Certificate Programme to acquire the required knowledge and professional certification needed to excel in the industry.
He emphasized that the Institute is committed to making sports education accessible to everyone, regardless of educational background.
"Whether you have the ability to read and write or not, the National Institute for Sports is here to train you through oral and practical lessons and certify you as a professional coach or sports administrator," Shaibu said.
The National Institute for Sports is expected to commence full academic activities next week as newly admitted students begin their academic journey.
